Many UK Homeowners ‘Would Benefit From Improved Security’
Many people in the UK aren’t taking even basic steps to secure their homes, a new study has found.
Property Reporter shared the results of a survey conducted by safe.co.uk, which discovered that 68 per cent of those who completed the survey didn’t have even a standard burglar alarm installed at their homes.
The organisation also found that just one in five people have CCTV at their properties, with just 13 per cent using smart home security devices and cameras to make their abodes more secure.
Interestingly, the survey revealed that it’s those who live in the lowest-value properties who are more likely to invest in home security than those who live in the most expensive homes.
According to the research, 51 per cent of people living in a home worth less than £50,000 have a burglar alarm, whereas those living in properties worth between £450,000 and £500,000 were found to have the least effective security measures.
Anthony Neary, managing director of safe.co.uk, commented: “It’s clear from our study that millions of homes across the UK are not adequately protected from burglary.”

An article for the Telegraph recently revealed that, according to data from the Office for National Statistics, two-thirds of break-ins happen while people are in their homes, so it certainly pays to think about your home security even if you’re spending more time in your property at the moment.
